I used google earth for this lesson and would use it for first graders. The google earth would be used to allow students see and learn about different habitats and the different animals in each. This would help them visualize and be able to look at the habitats without leaving the classroom, enjoy! Below I have Images of each habitat pinpointed on the map as well as I have the link so everyone can use this google earth lesson.

Alexa, this is outstanding work. First off, it’s a great example of the power of Google Earth to educate and tell a story. I enjoyed the selection of images and your crafting of the explanatory text for each. Your idea to include a “screenshot slideshow’ of each region and fauna was well executed and showcases the work within the post. (I went to Earth for full effect!)
You should take pride in the planning and work that went into this. I think Google should use it to promote Google Earth to other teachers.

This is so cool! I was really excited to see your Google Maps/Earth Lesson because it seemed from your early posts that you have traveled to a lot of cool spots. This is such a fun activity that would be captivating for anyone and of course first grade students! I believe this project could even extend for many more grade levels.I took an environmental science at UP and I believe this could be adjusted to discuss the specific biomes we were learning about. I love this! This would be so fun to do in class. Being able to transport kids outside of their everyday lives and get them immersed into a different place is so important for learning. Great job!
